As shown by the results of the annual assembly of CIAL – Consorzio Nazionale Imballaggi Alluminio, 73.6% of aluminium packaging placed on the market (or 60,200 tons) was sent for recycling in 2022.
The recycling rate of aluminium packaging in Italy has thus already far exceeded the 2025 (50%) and 2030 (60%) targets identified in the new Circular Economy Action Plan of the European Green Deal.
“Aluminum is easy to collect and recycle, and we in Italy do it very well. The results prove it” said Carmine Bruno Rea, President of CIAL.
In fact, the efficiency and effectiveness of the Italian separate collection and recycling system has avoided greenhouse emissions amounting to 423 thousand tons of CO2 and energy savings of more than 185 thousand tons of oil equivalent.
The choice of management criteria for the aluminium packaging supply chain guarantees a cost-effectiveness among the most efficient in Europe, realizing an excellent model of social, economic and environmental sustainability alongside an extremely constructive relationship with the territory, thanks to the combined action of institutions, companies, operators, citizens and municipalities.
