Generating clean energy to power the production of pre-painted steel and aluminum, but also to safeguard the environment. With this goal, Bergamo-based entrepreneur Matteo Trombetta Cappellani decided to install a solar photovoltaic system on the entire roof of Alusteel Coating, a Lodi-based company he runs together with Metalcoat and Aleu, respectively located in Bergamo and Gallarate (Varese).
The installation of the new solar photovoltaic system was completed in the past few days after 4 months of work. The system, which consists of more than 1,000 monocrystalline silicon modules and covers an area of about 5,000 square meters (equal to more than 30 volleyball courts), is designed to produce an average of 570,000 kWh per year, an amount of energy that will allow Alusteel Coating to cut annual energy consumption by about 25%.
Matteo Trombetta Cappellani, Chairman and CEO of Alusteel Coating, Metalcoat and Aleu, the group of Italian companies that is a point of reference in Europe in the production and marketing of pre-painted steel and aluminum, believed to be ateliers for their ability to provide a very high quality service, said: “The project for the construction of the photovoltaic system was born from the desire to cut down our energy consumption and, consequently, the impact that a production company like ours has on the environment. Today, in the face of the condition in which the energy market finds itself, and the obstacles that many companies are forced to face, we are all the more convinced of the goodness of our choice. Lowering our consumption provides us with economic stability and allows us to keep the prices offered to our customers unchanged. This condition is also possible thanks to the agreements on raw material procurement made for the next few years with our suppliers, reliable partners with whom we have long cultivated relationships based on goals of common growth, trust and collaboration.”
The installation of the photovoltaic system is part of a 6-million-euro investment plan over the next four years that focuses on digitization, increased production capacity and, above all, environmental sustainability.
Alusteel Coating is currently focused on renovating its headquarters and introducing a new sheet cutting line. In addition to this, the coating booth and combustor will be equipped with state-of-the-art technologies that will lead to a 20% increase in productivity. Between 2023 and 2024, a state-of-the-art Zero Waste sewage treatment plant will be installed, which will enable Alusteel Coating to cut annual water consumption by 90%, and buildings will be expanded.
